Bipartisan group of Senators want RFS integrity restored

A bipartisan group of U.S. senators is urging the EPA to restore integrity to the Renewable Fuel Standard.

In a letter addressed to acting EPA administrator Jane Nishida, Iowa Republican Chuck Grassley, Minnesota Democrat Amy Klobuchar, and several of their colleagues asked for the review of three small refinery waivers issued last-minute by former administrator Andrew Wheeler.

The Senators say these exemptions betrayed earlier assertions made by the Trump Administration and should be evaluated based on the outcome of last year’s 10th Circuit Court of Appeals ruling that found EPA guilty of overstepping its authority in granting a handful of waivers.

In the letter, Grassley also pressed EPA to swiftly issue a proposed rule for the 2021 Renewable Volume Obligation, and move forward with the E15 streamlining proposal to remove certain barriers to expanded sales of E15.
