Michigan Corn lays out 2021 priorities

The head of Michigan Corn says ethanol will be their top priority this year.

“One of the things we try to do is to increase the domestic use of ethanol and we try to analyze where are the barriers for increasing that demand.”

Jim Zook tells Brownfield the Corn Marketing Program of Michigan does this by educating the public and policy makers about the clean air benefits of using higher blends of ethanol along with partnering with the U.S. Grains Council to expand export markets for the fuel and DDGS.

Next on the list for the checkoff in 2021, Zooks says, “Our export markets are the second-highest priority, and that’s in all forms of corn, thirdly is working to ensure that we don’t have regulations that are restrictive to grow corn.”

On the lobbying side, Randy Poll of Hamilton was elected the new president of the Michigan Corn Growers Association during their recent annual meeting.  Other new board members include Jay Parr of Brown City, Cade Klein of, Marcellus, John Delmotte of Dundee, and Russell Braun of Ovid.
