Minnesota Industrial Hemp Association pleased with USDA’s Final Hemp Rule

The president of the Minnesota Industrial Hemp Association is pleased with USDA’s Final Rule Regulating Hemp Production.

Dave Ladd tells Brownfield some positive changes were made between the interim rule’s release in October 2019 and when the final rule was published January 15th.

“Like any rule, no rule is perfect including this one. But I believe, generally speaking, that this Final Rule is a very positive step forward in providing greater clarity regarding hemp cultivation, testing, and compliance.”

He says some of the improvements include alternative disposal and remediation opportunities for farmers, as well as a higher THC negligence threshold.

The Hemp Final Rule goes into effect March 22nd, but Ladd expects the Biden Administration to take it under review.

“I don’t anticipate any changes to it. But according to those I’ve had conversations with, their intent in the Biden Administration is to take a look at this rule and evaluate it. But I don’t sense that we’re going to have any great changes.”

As is, he says the Final Rule gives the reemerging industrial hemp sector a solid roadmap going forward.
