Senate Ag Committee chair says climate issues are urgent

The incoming Chairwomen of the Senate Ag Committee says she’s committed to supporting new economic opportunities to address the climate crisis.

“We can provide voluntary, producer-led opportunities for our farmers and foresters that will allow them to continue to cut down emissions and create new sources of income.”

Michigan Senator Debbie Stabenow told reporters Thursday she wants to get her Growing Climate Solutions Act passed soon as possible.

“I certainly will advocate full funding in these areas to support farmers and to support what we want to do,” she says. “We can’t wait until the next farm bill.”

Stabenow also outlined plans to address the hunger crisis, reauthorize the Child Nutrition Bill, create jobs, and improve the quality of life in small towns and rural communities with a focus on high-speed internet access, and gett input for the next farm bill as focus areas for the committee in 2021.
