Ethanol production firms up, stocks tighten slightly

U.S. ethanol production was up modestly during the week ending January 15th and stocks tightened, even as blending demand continues to be impacted by COVID-19.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration says production averaged 945,000 barrels a day, up 4,000 from the previous week, but down 104,000 on the year.

The Renewable Fuels Association says net inputs by refiners and blenders and the volume of gasoline supplied to the market were also up on the week, but down on the year.

Stocks were 64,000 barrels lower at 23.628 million barrels, which is 403,000 below a year ago because of the reduced production.

The USDA’s next corn for ethanol use estimate is out February 9th.
