United Soybean Board launches U.S. grown sustainability mark

The United Soybean Board is partnering with Soylent and DuPont to identify those companies’ products and ingredients as being made with sustainably grown U.S. soybeans.

“We want people to notice on a package, ‘Oh, this is sustainably sourced from U.S. farmers,’” said Belinda Burrier, a director on the United Soybean Board and a Maryland farmer. Burrier adds that she feels good that the new Sustainably Grown U.S. Soy mark lets buyers know she is feeding people and contributing to a cleaner planet.

“It makes me proud as a farmer to know that we have something out there that we can say, ‘here’s our seal of approval,’” Burrier told Brownfield Ag News.

It is hoped the mark will increase demand for soybeans grown by U.S. farmers using practices such as conservation tillage, cover crops and responsible nutrient management.

“When a consumer sees that,” said Burrier, “they’ll know that Soylent and DuPont have sustainably sourced all their ingredients and they are producing a sustainable product.”
