The virtual 2021 American Farm Bureau Convention ended with policies on labor, meat pricing and other big issues.

Farm Bureau President Zippy Duvall says their first ever virtual convention was a tremendous success. Beef pricing was a top discussion.

“We wanted to support an increase negotiated sales on fed cattle markets and we also want to increase transparency in livestock pricing.”

Duvall says delegates updated labor policy, recognizing that parts of agriculture don’t have access to the H2A program which needs to be modernized for commodities like dairy.

“There’s a lot of need to have immigration reform and farm labor is part of that. We look forward to working with this (incoming) Congress and this administration to try to fix that.”

Delegates also updated dairy policy related to the milk price formula, crop insurance policies to improve hurricane protection coverage, and encourage racial diversity in farming.
