South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem pushes for greater broadband infrastructure

South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem is proposing the expansion of broadband infrastructure in South Dakota. In her State of the State Address Tuesday, Governor Noem said she wants to finish connecting the 135,000 South Dakotans still without highspeed broadband.

“Thriving communities from border to border will yield much better results for our state and our families, rather than concentrated growth in just two big cities,” said Governor Noem, addressing the state’s lawmakers.

She wasn’t specific, but Noem said a state investment, coupled with industry funding and federal grants is enough to get the job done.

Governor Noem used the address to say she likes the outcome of July’s streamlining of permitting for agriculture related projects.

“To date, I am pleased to report that we had 23 new ag projects resulting in more thank 320 new jobs across the state of South Dakota,” she said.

The reforms, said Noem, have resulted in a more competitive and attractive environment for agriculture business in South Dakota.
