Dairy product production starting to simmer

The USDA says November dairy product numbers were mixed on the year with the largest gains seen for nonfat dry milk powder.

Total cheese production totaled 1.1 billion pounds, nearly three percent lower on the month but up a little more than a half of a percent from the previous month. Italian cheese production was down on the month and year while American cheese was higher on the year but down from October.

Butter production totaled 168 million pounds, up nearly two percent from the prior month and four percent from the last year.

Nonfat dry milk was up more than nine percent from 2019 and skim milk powder was up nearly seven percent.  Dry whey production was down nearly six percent.  Lactose was up more than one percent from last year.
