Corps makes MO River levee repair progress in mild weather
Missouri River levee repairs by the Army Corps of Engineers have made good progress in the state so far this winter. Mike Dulin is with the Kansas City District Emergency Management, “This winter, we’ve really had good construction weather so our contractors have made pretty good progress up and down the river. Right now, we’ve got 49 of 56 levee repair contracts are awarded. Many of those are complete.”
The corps continues to be in flood risk management mode with 63% of overall construction projects complete.
Kevin Low, hydrolgist for the Missouri Basin River forecast center in Kansas City, says the La Nina weather pattern continues. “And our water supply forecast suggests a below normal runoff season for the period April through September.”
But he says even though upper Missouri River state snow pack is below normal, that could change. Lau says there’s a chance for more minor flooding in south central Missouri which is typical.
