South Dakota wheat ratings impacted by dry weather
Dry weather during December in South Dakota impacted the winter wheat condition rating and soil moisture levels.
The USDA says 37% of the winter wheat crop is in good to excellent condition, down 10% from the end of November, and 55% is rated fair, up 23%, with 8% called poor to very poor, 3% lower.
59% of topsoil and 63% of subsoil are short to very short of moisture, expanding from the previous report.
The USDA’s weekly crop progress and condition numbers resume in April.
