Global Dairy Trade index up significantly Tuesday

The Global Dairy Trade index took a significant 3.9% jump in Tuesday’s market event.  Prices for all seven of the offered dairy commodities were up.

Cheddar cheese was up 5% at $4,078 a metric ton, or $1.84 per pound.  Butter rose 7.2% to $4,526 a metric ton, or $2.05 per pound.  Butter milk powder prices went up 6.9% to $2,876 a ton or $1.30 per pound.  Anhydrous milk fat rose 5.5% to $4,604 per metric ton, or $2.08 per pound.  Whole milk powder had the smallest gain but was still up 3.1% at $3,306 per ton or $1.49 per pound.  Skim milk powder rose 4.1% to $3,044 per ton or $1.38 per pound.  Lactose prices made the largest jump, up 7.4% to $1,099 a metric ton, or $.49 per pound.

Tuesday’s trading event was the fourth in a row to show a rising index with stronger dairy prices.
