Scott talks about new role as House Ag Committee

Congressman David Scott will begin his role as chairman of the House Ag Committee when the new Congress convenes January 3.

The Georgia Democrat will be the first African American to serve in that role.

“It is a glorious position for me to have the honor of being the first African American member of congress to become chairman of the House Ag committee and I owe all of that to the great diverse members of the Democratic caucus in the house who elected me,” he says. “I’m so grateful for the experience and I thank god for the blessing to be able to serve and represent the people of Georgia and the nation.”

Scott tells Brownfield he will represent the entire caucus and encourage bipartisanship.

“It is very important that we maintain our bipartisan approach that has long been the culture and working relationships within our committee,” he says. “I’m bipartisan and work in a bipartisan way.”

Scott has served as a Member of Congress and the House Agriculture Committee since 2003. He says he learned the value of hard work growing up on his grandparents’ farm in rural South Carolina.
