Vilsack promises support and equity to Black farmer organizations
Secretary of Agriculture nominee Tom Vilsack has expressed commitment to partner with and support Black farmer organizations in his new role.
During a virtual meeting with Black farm organizations Tuesday, Vilsack said he would ensure fairness and equity for Black farmers and provide necessary resources for the ongoing issues they face.
Participants, including the Kansas Black Farmer Association and the Arkansas Land and Farm Development Corporation highlighted the importance of rural broadband access, the Justice for Black Farmers Act and discrimination Black farmers have faced when trying to access USDA programs and assistance.
Vilsack has made clear that he will work to ensure Black farmers have a seat at the table during his time as secretary.
