Kroger highlights 2020 trending foods and 2021 trend predictions
America’s largest grocery retailer, Kroger, has released their top 10 trending foods of 2020 and food trend predictions for 2021.
Chief Merchant Stuart Aitken says top 2020 selections underscore how consumers embraced cooking and eating at home as part of their new routine – from go-to breakfast and lunch staples like artisan breads and black forest ham, to comfort foods and beverages like bulk coffee pods, wine and variety chocolate.
Mexican blend shredded cheese, flavored potato chips, heavy whipping cream and fresh burger patties also made the list with zero-calorie soft drinks claiming the number one spot.
Looking ahead, Aitken says they expect consumers will aspire to eat more healthy foods and explore more unique flavors in 2021. The top seven foods trends they predict for 2021 include Futureproof foods to support immune health and stress management, comfort foods, keto foods, global flavors, eco-friendly products, and emerging innovation like no-cry onions.
Kroger also expects 2021 to be a breakthrough year for mushrooms as they are versatile, rich in antioxidants, vitamins and minerals and can elevate everyday recipes.
