Governor Walz announces Ag Water Quality Certification goal
Governor Walz has announced a goal of enrolling one million acres into Minnesota’s Ag Water Quality Certification Program by the end of 2022.
Currently, more than 675,000 acres are enrolled.
“This program connects farmers with local conservation district experts to identify and mitigate any risk to water quality. After being certified, each farm is deemed in compliance with water quality laws and regulations for ten years.”
During a video message, Walz said there are also financial benefits for farmers.
“According to an analysis from our state colleges, certified farms see an average of 26 percent higher net profits than other farms. I encourage Minnesota farmers and landowners to look into the Minnesota Ag Water Quality Certification Program and help us protect our natural resources for generations to come.”
Since the program began in 2014, nearly 1,000 Minnesota farms have been certified.
