Yield potential over price as farmer mulls 2021 crop rotation

A Minnesota farmer will be basing his 2021 crop rotation more on yield potential than price.

Brent Mohn of Lakeville is unsure how he’ll divvy out acres, but says yield will dictate a better income almost over a crop price.

“If you can have a good yield, even with a lesser commodity price, you still can manage what you’re doing farming better.”

He tells Brownfield it takes a good crop to be successful.

“That’s where I tend to lean more toward do what’s right for the year and what’s right for each field, and what’s going to perform the best with the year you had. You can’t just always look at the Board of Trade and decide what’s being planted.”

Mohn says conditions in the spring will also factor into how he splits up corn and soybeans.
