The Illinois Department of Agriculture will kick off the second year of their “Fall Covers for Spring Savings Program” on December 15th.

Applications will become available at midnight and funding of eligible acres will be on a first come, first served basis.

Illinois acres planted to cover crops in the fall of 2020 that will be planted to a insurable crop in 2021 are eligible. Applicants will receive a $5 per acre premium discount on the following year’s crop insurance invoice for verified acres.

Applicants must have coverage through the USDA Risk Management Agency crop insurance program and will need to certify their cover crops through their local FSA office before applying. Applicants will also need their current FSA-578 and federal crop insurance policy number for the application.
