Positive reactions after Biden names Vilsack as Ag Secretary pick

Several ag groups and lawmakers have reacted positively to the selection of former Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack to that position in the Biden administration.

Geoff Cooper, CEO of the Renewable Fuels Association, says they are especially happy to have someone who “intimately understands the crucial role renewable fuels and agriculture can play in confronting climate change.”

Growth Energy CEO Emily Skor says Vilsack has been a tireless champion of the biofuels industry over his career.

The National Cattlemen’s Beef Association says Secretary Vilsack knows the issues facing America’s cattle producers and can use his extensive experience to showcase the positive impact cattle producers have on food security, nutrition, and natural resources.

Outgoing House Ag Committee Chairman Collin Peterson says Vilsack understands very well the challenges that farmers and rural communities face across the country and will do “an excellent job.” Peterson says he hopes his Senate colleagues “confirm (Vilsack) quickly so he can address the important work at hand at USDA.”

Ranking Senate Ag Committee member Debbie Stabenow says Secretary Vilsack has the experience, resolve, and vision that is needed to usher in a new era at USDA and saw “first-hand the transformation he led at the Department to reinvigorate rural communities, improve school meals, and address the climate crisis.”

“Secretary Vilsack knows the issues facing America’s cattle producers and can utilize his extensive experience to showcase the positive impact we have on food security, nutrition, and our natural resources.

American Farm Bureau and National Farmers Union said prior to the nomination was official that they strongly support Vilsack as the new ag secretary.
