USGC report shows increase in corn harvest quality
An annual report by the US Grains Council reveals favorable growing season conditions allowed the quality of this year’s corn crop to exceed the five-year average.
The 2020/2021 Corn Harvest Quality Report unveiled higher average test weights at 58.7 pounds per bushel, lower average moisture content at 15.8% and lower total damage in comparison to 2019 and the previous five years. Data also indicated higher protein concentration, lower starch and oil concentration, and lower kernel volume on average.
The report shows nearly 95% of samples were at or above the minimum requirement for No. 1 grade corn.
USGC reports the US is the top exporter of corn, accounting for more than 36% of global corn exports for the 2020/2021 marketing year. The council will present the report to buyers around the world during several virtual events beginning with Southeast Asia on Friday.
