Minnesota State Cattlemen’s Association director calls 2020 “a rollercoaster”

The director of the Minnesota State Cattlemen’s Association says 2020 has been full of ups and downs.

Allison Vanderwal tells Brownfield it’s difficult to describe the past year.

“Rollercoaster is probably (the most appropriate term). We started out 2020 feeling really good about our futures, and then obviously we got hit by the pandemic in March and April and things kind of started to turn for the worse. And we saw some things that we never thought we’d witness in the cattle industry.”

Looking ahead to 2021, she says hopefully it’s better than 2020.

“We’re seeing a couple of things coming out of the market, and we’re hoping that it’s looking good for us.”

Vanderwal says a silver lining to the pandemic is that it has revealed some flaws in the supply chain that can and are being addressed.
