Minnesota dairy takes social media influencer on virtual farm tour

A dairy in central Minnesota recently hosted a virtual tour for a social media influencer.

Alise Sjostrum of Jer-Lindy Farms and Red Head Creamery near Brooten says they partnered with Dairy Management Incorporated in an effort to share dairy’s story with emerging consumer group Gen Z.

“It’s basically in our blood to talk with consumers and build relationships about how their food is produced, and try to get on a level playing field and mindset of questions, concerns, and excitement for how food is produced.”

She tells Brownfield she walked Matt Smith, who has more than 1.3 million Instagram followers and 12 million YouTube subscribers, through her farm via Zoom this fall.

“At the end he said ‘I think I’m tearing up a little.’ And so, that was nice (because) I didn’t expect to hear him get taken aback by the fact that we are trying really hard. And it’s nice when people want to know and have questions. We want to share that with them.”

Sjostrum says she made sure to highlight the importance of manure, raising calves and why they vaccinate, and the overall treatment of animals on their farm.
