Flood of dairy enrollments expected
Slightly more than 10 percent of dairy farmers who enrolled in the Dairy Margin Coverage Program for 2020 have done so for next year.
Farm Service Agency Administrator Richard Fordyce tells Brownfield 4,500 producers have enrolled as of his last count, but he’s not concerned.
“We saw a significant jump in those, literally in the last week [last year], and so we anticipate those to continue to climb.
More than 37,000 farmers were enrolled in the program this year and have received nearly $200 million in payments.
Analysts say there’s a very strong likelihood the program will be beneficial next year with higher margins forecasted. The deadline to enroll is December 11.
