Tropical storms lingering in the Delta and Southeast

Brownfield Meteorologist Greg Soulje says tropical storms in the Delta and Southeast regions might outlast their seasonal deadline.

“The calendar says, at least as of November 30th, we should end the tropical weather season, but we haven’t thus far and most likely won’t. We may very well go into part of early December.”

He says they are currently keeping an eye on Hurricane Iota in that area, but he does not expect it to be much of a moisture source.

“We think a general quieting down is expected, with shaky confidence, in the gulf coast and southeastern part of the country. But I would not be surprised if we go into December with a couple more tropical systems named and that continues to shatter the records.”

With a total of 30 named tropical storms in 2020, this year holds the record for the most active Atlantic hurricane season.
