New legislative session could see more support for ag sectors
Michigan Farm Bureau says while the make up of the state legislature remains the same following the elections with a 58 to 52 majority for Republicans, there are more law makers with connections to agriculture.
“Hopefully we’re going to be in good shape to present agriculture’s perspective in the legislature in this next session.”
Rob Anderson tells Brownfield the pandemic this year has disrupted most legislative priorities, but it has magnified the importance of the food supply chain and addressing ag labor shortages.
“I think that has triggered a conversation in the state legislature about how can we provide some conversation that will prevent those kinds of shortages in the future.”
He says 2021 will start with budget conversations and Farm Bureau plans to advocate for maintaining critical services provided by the Michigan Department of Agriculture.
