Illinois farmers reach final passes of 2020 harvest, winter wheat planting
With nearly every day deemed suitable for field work last week, Illinois farmers are near the finish line for 2020 corn and soybean harvest as well as winter wheat planting.
The USDA reports as of Sunday 95% of corn and 96% of soybeans are harvested across the state, both slightly ahead of the five-year average.
Winter wheat planting reached 97%, also ahead of average, with 90% of the crop emerged. The USDA rates Illinois winter wheat 70% good to excellent.
The statewide average temperature last week was 54.7 degrees, 9.1 degrees above normal, with no measurable precipitation recorded.
