Leroy Street closed Nov. 4-6 for asphalt overlay

Press Release:

Leroy Street will be closed from Mulberry Avenue to Amherst Avenue Wednesday through Friday (Nov. 4-6) as part of the asphalt overall street maintenance project. Leroy Street was determined to be a high priority asphalt street in need of repair by the Department of Public Works.

The 2020 Asphalt Street Overlay Program were both put on hold last Spring as the City of Muscatine assessed the financial impact of the COVID-19 health crisis. With better than anticipated revenues from the Road Use Tax, several “high priority” projects were given the go-ahead by the Muscatine City Council on October 1, 2020.

Leroy will be milled on Wednesday, cleaned on Thursday, with the new overlay of asphalt being put down on Friday. The detour around the work will be to use Barry from Mulberry to Leroy.

Taylor Ridge Paving & Construction was awarded the contract for the work.

This is the only asphalt overlay that will be completed before the asphalt plants shut down for the winter. DPW staff is looking at several other street sections that could be completed in Spring 2021 if there is adequate funding.

All dates are tentative and dependent on weather conditions or other unforeseen circumstances.

Drivers are urged to use caution when proceeding in or around construction areas and to find alternate routes of travel when possible.
