South Dakota #Harvest20: corn 85%, sorghum 89% and sunflowers 50%

South Dakota farmers are staying in front of the typical harvest pace.

USDA’s latest weekly crop report says as of Sunday, the state’s corn harvest is 85 percent complete.  That compares to just 23 percent at this time last year, and the five-year average of 53 percent.

The sorghum harvest progressed to nearly 90 percent, well ahead of 38 percent a year ago and 64 percent normally.

Half of the state’s sunflower acres are harvested, putting the pace slightly behind normal.

Winter wheat emergence has reached 84 percent, with 58 percent of the crop rated good to excellent.
