Press Release:

Muscatine High School’s Community Stadium will get a new synthetic turf field thanks to a $1 million grant from the Roy J. Carver Charitable Trust. Phase two improvements include; resurfacing the running track, renovating the home side bleachers, constructing a new press box, upgrading the stadium fencing, and installing a new scoreboard that includes video. Phase one improvements were completed this past September and included new entry ways & ticket booths along with the multipurpose storm shelter that also houses new restrooms and concession stands for the stadium.

“Installing a turf field will have a huge positive impact for the students and families of our school district. Muscatine Community Stadium is used for all levels of football in Muscatine from 3rd/4th grade through High School Varsity football. In addition, we typically host 1-2 marching band contests a year on our stadium field and this addition will allow students to practice and compete without worrying about the impact of fall weather on our stadium surface,” said Muscatine High School Athletic & Activities Director, Tom Ulses.

Additional funds needed to close the gap on total construction costs will be generated via the community and efforts to reach businesses in town. The construction on the stadium is slated to begin in late spring of 2021 and is expected to be completed by the fall football and marching band season.

“We are extremely thankful to the Roy J. Carver Charitable Trust for this generous donation, and their support of our vision for renovating Muscatine Community Stadium for our students, families and supporters,” added Tom Ulses.

In addition to the grant for the turf field, the Roy J. Carver Charitable Trust had previously awarded another $1 million grant used for the STEM wing that opened this fall at Muscatine High School. Together the Muscatine community and Muscatine Community School District must work to ensure the future success of each other. The continued development of new and improved facilities will serve to enhance the attraction of Muscatine as a community and a school district. People seek out and want to be involved with communities and school districts that take pride in the facilities that they provide for the youth of the community.
