SD farmer had much better harvest this year

A South Dakota farmer says he had a much better harvest this year than last. Doug Noem, president of the South Dakota Corn Growers Association, farms near Bryant in east-central South Dakota and wrapped up harvest on October 16th, “The pheasant season starts in South Dakota here in the third Saturday of October every year. And that’s the second time in 40 years that I remember being done by harvest before pheasant season started.”

Noem says they’re happy with yields which were above average, “We have a 50 bushel APH on soybeans here. We were in the high 50s to low 60s. On corn, our APH is right at 200 and our farm average is going to be right at 205.”

Last year, 50% of Noem’s acres were prevent plant because of flooding. He hopes to get back in the fields eventually to do strip tillage but today he’s looking at 8 inches of snow out his window.
