Pandemic rapidly accelerates growth in direct-to-consumer ag
A lending specialist with Compeer Financial says the COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated growth in direct-to-consumer agriculture.
And Paul Dietmann tells Brownfield social media is a big reason why.
“One example I can think of is a Facebook page here in Wisconsin called Farm Direct Wisconsin, and it started in April of this year in response to COVID. People were looking for products and trying to connect with farmers who had products to sell.”
He says that Facebook page has quickly grown to almost 57,000 members.
“It’s just incredible how that’s exploded and how many connections it’s made between consumers and farmers.”
Dietmann commends the organizers of the page for taking the time to create that type of connection, and he says there are many examples like that popping up across the country.
