Perdue says CFAP2 stands as is despite call out by Democrats

Several Democratic Senators are calling for USDA to allow dairy farmers and other livestock producers to receive CFAP2 payments for losses related to meat production from breeding animals.

The Senators say farmers were able to receive direct payments on breeding stock during the first wave of COVID aid and the decision to exclude the category is troubling considering USDA clearly has sufficient resources to cover the losses.

U.S. Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue tells Brownfield there is no possibility the program will be changed.

“This is a political year, people on the other side want to complain about anything this Republican administration has done.  The good news is, virtually farmers everywhere I go applaud the CFAP2.”

He says the agency wasn’t able to include breeding stock and there’s no way complicated programs satisfy everyone.  USDA is however planning for more food box purchases through the end of the year.

Brownfield interviewed Perdue during this visit to Michigan Friday.
