Third week of CFAP2 payments maintain trend to states and on commodities
USDA has given out nearly an additional $2 billion to farmers in the last week for the second Coronavirus Food Assistance Program.
As of October 18th, the agency had approved more than $6.1 billion, up from $4.5 billion a week ago. Payments to corn growers remain at the top of the list at more than $1.8 billion followed by cattle with nearly $1.4 billion, soybeans at almost $688 million, milk at nearly $626 million and sales commodities at $560 million.
Farmers in Iowa were awarded the most at $604 million, followed by Illinois with nearly $433 million, Nebraska with almost $429 million, Minnesota with $428 million, and Wisconsin with nearly $331 million.
Other Brownfield states include Arkansas with $117, Indiana with $249 million, Michigan with $170 million, Missouri at $222 million, Ohio at $175 million, South Dakota at $291 million, and Tennessee with $86 million.
Wisconsin dairy farmers were again the top receivers of milk payments, making up a third of all applications and 30 percent of payments with more than 3,400 applicants approved to receive $158 million. Dairy farmers in New York, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Minnesota still round out the top five states and nearly another third of applications and payments of the more than $625.7 million made so far.
