Illinois soybean harvest, wheat planting ahead of average

Soybean harvest is ahead of average in Illinois as some farmers near the final laps of the 2020 harvest season.

The USDA reports as of Sunday 81% of the soybean crop is harvested compared to 56% the week before and the 66% five -year average. The last time soybean harvest topped 80% for the current week was 2015.

Corn harvest reached 66% complete, one percentage point ahead of average and up 21 percentage points from the week before. USDA rates the crop 65% good to excellent.

Winter wheat planting is 73% complete, well ahead of the 55% average with 25% of the crop emerged. The last time wheat planting in Illinois reached this level for the current week was the fall of 2011.
