NASDA priorities remain clear no matter who wins the Presidential Election
National Association of State Departments of Agriculture CEO Barb Glenn says the priorities for NASDA will remain the same no matter who wins the upcoming Presidential Election.
“Agriculture isn’t a red or blue issue, food and agriculture is a critical infrastructure,” she says. “It matters now more than ever that we have resiliency in policy for rural America to recover from this pandemic.”
She tells Brownfield NASDA had a dialogue with both campaigns about the priorities…“Number one for NASDA members is to expand and preserve market access for trade, number two is we’ve had a new focus with the pandemic on protecting workers in the food and ag sector,” she says.
Other priorities include food safety, expanding rural broadband access, enhancing resiliency of the US food supply chain, and investing in climate resiliency programs.
Glenn says it’s important for NASDA, a non-partisan organization, to talk to both administrations to help farmers, ranchers, and rural communities into the future. She says cooperation between state and federal partners will be critical moving forward.
NASDA represents the elected and appointed commissioners, secretaries, and directors of the departments of agriculture in all 50 states and four U.S. territories.
