Soybeans done despite a few harvest hiccups for SW Minnesota farmer
A farmer in southwest Minnesota wrapped up soybean harvest last week despite a few hiccups.
Bryan Biegler of Lake Wilson says equipment problems have been popping up more than he’d like.
“But the weather has been cooperating really well, and the yields have been turning out really nice this year. Especially considering how we didn’t really get any corn planted last year. So it’s been a nice change this year.”
Excessively wet conditions in 2019 forced Biegler to take prevented planting on most of his acres.
He tells Brownfield it’s been much drier this year, but he doesn’t think that has much to do with the breakdowns.
“I think it’s just one of those 2020 things. Just the way the year’s been going.”
Biegler says soybean yields were in the 55 to 65-bushel range and would’ve been better with a rain in August.
He’s a third of the way through corn.
“They’ve been anywhere from 190 up to 235.”
And with moisture around 14 percent, Biegler says he’s been hauling straight to town filling up contracts.
