Farmer sees above-average yields

Western Indiana farmer Kevin Cox is pleased with his yields so far.

“We have all of the soybeans harvested at this point and I was pleasantly surprised with the yields there,” he says. “We are 15-20 percent into our corn being harvested and it’s been an exceptional crop.”

Cox tells Brownfield he did see a reduction in yield on soybeans he had to replant after wet conditions in June.

“We did hit probably a 20 percent reduction on those beans that had to be replanted but at the end of the day we’ve been pretty happy with our averages,” he says.

He says the yields are above average despite growing season challenges.

“We’re going to wind up having above average year this year which is a pleasant surprise,” he says.

Cox grows corn and soybeans in Clay and Parke counties.
