Bayer COO says no news on dicamba reregistration date

The Chief Operating Officer of Bayer CropScience says he does not know when the EPA will announce reregistration of the company’s dicamba herbicide XtendiMax.

EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler has said it would be mid-October – but Brett Begeman tells Brownfield Ag News, “I don’t know any new news from Mr. Wheeler on what he’s been saying about the middle of October. But I’ve also worked with the government for a long time and sometimes the middle of October, that includes the end of October.”

Begeman says that’s not a criticism of the EPA, just how government often works.

“I believe that they (EPA) are absolutely committed and they’re telling farmers that they’re absolutely committed. They (farmers) need to know that decision so that they can make the appropriate choices as they’re making decisions for seed for next year and the EPA understands that.”

Begeman says Bayer is confident the reregistration for XtendiMax will satisfy this summer’s court ruling – and will lay the groundwork for Bayer’s newly registered XtendFlex soybeans for use in 2021.
