Time to recognize Michigan Master Farmers

Nominations for the Michigan Master Farmer Awards are now open.

Jim Zook, head of the Corn Marketing Program of Michigan, tells Brownfield master farmers are selfless on and off their farms. “They’re just very helpful to others, and then they’re also very much willing to listen and end up taking those learnings back to their farm.”

Applications and nomination letters will be judged on farm management, innovation, conservation, leadership, and community involvement.

Winners will be awarded plaques from Michigan Farmer magazine and a Carhartt jacket donated by Carhartt.  They also receive a $1,000 sponsored by Michigan Agricultural Commodities, Greenstone Farm Credit Services and Wilbur-Ellis.

Awards are normally presented at the end of January at the Great Lakes Crop Summit in Mt. Pleasant, which has been canceled because of COVID-19 in 2021, and will be presented at a future time.

The winners will be featured in videos developed by Brownfield Ag News and the February issue of Michigan Farmer. Nominations are due Nov. 15.
