Silage & dry bean harvest nearly finished

Warm and dry weather last week helped speed harvest along in Michigan.

The USDA says 82 percent of corn is mature and condition dropped three point to 52 percent good to excellent.  Soybeans are 86 percent mature and 42 percent harvested with condition improving two points to 65 percent good to excellent.

As of Sunday, 38 percent of dry beans and 52 percent of sugarbeets were in good to excellent condition.  Corn silage harvest is essentially complete while, dry beans are 82 percent, and sugarbeets are 39 percent finished.

Apple harvest continues with demand for fresh apples and cider very strong.  Some cider makers have had to source outside of their farms to keep up with demand.
