La Nina weather pattern could lead to a wet winter and spring

Ohio State University Atmospheric Scientist Aaron Wilson says the La Nina weather pattern this winter should replenish soil moisture in parts of the Midwest.

“Importantly for us, that variable Jetstream really drives moisture,” he says.
“That’s what we’re looking at as we head into the winter and I don’t doubt that our soils will recharge this winter.”

But, he says farmers could also face a wet spring.

“I would hedge toward we’re going to start the season with wet soils and as we know sometimes those wet soils take a little bit longer to warm up,” he says.

Wilson made these comments during a resent OSU harvest climate and grain outlook webinar.
