Agronomist says soybean yields have been a pleasant surprise
As soybean harvest winds down in southern Wisconsin, a Pioneer agronomist says he’s been pleasantly surprised.
William Wynn tells Brownfield yields have been phenomenal. “We thought we lost some top-end with the dry weather in August,” he says. “And honestly what I think we’ve been seeing, from our perspective, is that some of those fuller maturity soybeans have been doing really well. Especially ones that had a fungicide applied. They could definitely hang on to that plant health during those drier periods in August.”
He says as farmers plan for next year, they need to consider all components of their harvest data. “As folks are going back and looking at what decision really paid, fungicide on soybeans was by far and away paying big dividends,” he says. “Anywhere from 5 to 10 bushels from what we’re seeing in southern Wisconsin.”
Wynn says soybean harvest in his area is about 90 percent complete.
