Wheeler discussed efforts to restore the Great Lakes during recent tour

EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler toured northeast Ohio and western Pennsylvania this week and announced new efforts to restore the Great Lakes and toured brownfield redevelopment sites.

Wheeler said the EPA is working with state and local partners to clean up rivers that flow into the Great Lakes, use brownfield grants to safely clean up and reuse contaminated properties, and hear how the smart sectors program helps small businesses deal with regulation.

Regional Administrator Kurt Thiede said the collaborative effort to redevelop and reclaim brownfields is dramatically improving the region’s environment.

Wheeler visited the farm of Ohio Farm Bureau President Frank Burkett and heard how the family is protecting water quality while producing high quality milk. The farm visit was part of a multi-stop tour in Northeast Ohio and Western Pennsylvania.
