Minnesota farmer says yields are variable

Harvest is well underway for Southwestern Minnesota farmer Bill Gordon.

“We completed soybeans about a week ago and corn is in full swing and fairly dry,” he says.

He tells Brownfield yields for both corn and soybeans are variable.

“Some 150-160 range for corn up to 230,” he says. “Soybeans are the same at mid to low 40s up to mid-60. It depends on your field, quality of ground, and your drainage.”

Gordon, president of the American Soybean Association, says they are experiencing drought conditions in his area. He says timely rainfall later this fall would help build up subsoil moisture and set farmers up for a better spring.
