Indiana Farm Bureau Health Plans are now available
Indiana Farm Bureau Health Plans are now available after more than a year of research.
INFB President Randy Kron says over the past few years he’s heard countless stories from members about not having access to affordable and reliable healthcare.
Kron says INFB Health Plans are the culmination of a lot of hard work and will help meet the needs of famers across the state.
“I can’t explain in words really what it feels like (for the health plans to be available),” he says. “This is something that I was hoping we could do for several years and it’s taken a lot of work, but it feels great.”
The health plans include individual and family plans, Medicare supplement insurance plans, and dental and vision coverage.
INFB can offer affordable healthcare options for its members because of legislation passed earlier this year. Franklin County Farmer Mindy Orschell says healthcare has driven many of the decisions her family makes for the farming operation.
“We have two sons that have recently both completed their ag-related college and would love to follow their passion and return to our family farm but we can’t encourage that at this point because we aren’t able to offer any type of health insurance for them,” she says. “We’re hopeful that in the near future our boys will be able to join our operation because of the action farm bureau is taking.”
Megan Ritter is the executive director of administration with INFB.
“It’s important to note that Indiana Farm Bureau Health Plans are not insurance and Indiana Farm bureau Insurance is not a health company,” she says. “In creating Indiana Farm Bureau Health Plans, it’s called on all resources of the farm bureau family to develop innovative and more affordable health coverage.”
She says members will be able to apply for the health plans starting October 1. Traditional plans for those under 65 and dental and vision coverage will require a 30-day waiting period for the application. The Medicare supplement plan does not require the membership waiting period.
