EPA approves disinfectant for ASF virus

The maker of a commonly used disinfectant says the EPA has approved their product for controlling the African Swine Fever virus.  Virox Animal Health says their Intervention brand farm disinfectant concentrate is effective against the virus when mixed in a 64-to-1 solution and applied for ten minutes.

The ASF virus has been the pork industry’s most significant disease, but so far, it has not occurred in the United States.

In a statement, Jose Ramirez with Virox says the Intervention product is non-toxic, non-irritating, and readily biodegradable, unlike some other products that are difficult to handle and suffer from less-than-ideal occupational safety and environmental profiles.
