Argentine port workers cease activity for 24 hours

The Union of Grain Receivers and Annexes of the Argentine Republic (URGARA) has announced a 24-hour strike for port workers that started at midnight today.

Workers are ceasing all activity after failure to negotiate with the Chamber of Private Ports.

The labor union says it is not going to renounce its demand for improvements in purchasing power and will insist on reducing work hours.

In a statement, the union says as essential workers they have continued tasks since the beginning of quarantine. They say they want to be recognized and for employers to stop wanting to maximize profits at the expense of workers.

The labor union says it will attend a meeting with the Ministry of Labor on Tuesday.
