Walmart plans to reach zero emissions by 2040

Walmart plans to achieve zero emissions across the company’s global operations by 2040.

The retailer says it will reach zero emissions without the use of carbon offsets by powering its facilities with 100 percent renewable energy by 2035, using electric vehicles by 2040, and using low-impact refrigerants for cooling and electrified equipment for heating by 2040.

Walmart and the Walmart Foundation will also help protect, manage, or restore at least 50 million acres of land and one million square miles of ocean by 2030.

Walmart President and CEO Doug McMillion says they want to play an important role in transforming the world’s supply chains to be regenerative. He says efforts to decarbonize Walmart’s global operation put it on the path to becoming a regenerative company.
