Prioritize your well-being during National Farm Safety and Health Week

During National Farm Safety and Health Week an ag safety professor reminds farmers their health is valuable to the success of their farm.

Josie Rudolphi with the University of Illinois tells Brownfield the health and safety of an individual is an investment in the efficiency of an operation.

“You would hate to have a combine break down, similarly you would hate to have a broken leg or get COVID-19, so consider your health as one of those important moving parts.”

She says although it is difficult, farmers should be sure they are getting enough rest and proper nutrition during the hustle and bustle of harvest.

“Sleep deficiency is associated with increased risk of injury, reduced reaction time and reduced concentration. If there is one thing we need during harvest it is certainly the ability to concentrate and think clearly.”

National Farm Safety and Health Week runs September 20-26 with the theme “Every farmer counts.”
