USDA: cheese, butter in cold storage move higher
The USDA says cheese stocks in cold storage at the end of August were an all-time monthly high.
The total of 1.378 billion pounds was up 1% on the year, with a 3% increase in American type cheeses to 790.061 million cancelling out a 25% drop in Swiss at 20.522 million pounds and a slight decline for other types of cheese to 567.756 million.
Butter stocks jumped 22% to 371.720 million pounds, but that is still considerably less than the record monthly high notched in 1992.
The USDA’s cheese and butter production numbers for August are out October 5th.
